FAQ

Is Lark Morrigan your real name?

No, it’s a pseudonym.

Why did you pick the pseudonym Lark Morrigan?

I’ve always loved the name Lark (it appears in Victorian and Romantic poetry, it’s one of Cosette’s nicknames in Les Misérables, and this songbird best reflects the poetic side of me). I was around 9 when I thought, “Lark is going to be an important name to me some day.”

Morrigan (known as The Morrígan in Celtic Mythology) is a prophetic tripartite goddess of war, death, and fate.

Because I’m so extra, I even have a middle name for my pseudonym. Lark Calliope Morrigan. Calliope is one of the nine muses in Greek Mythology and is the muse of epic poetry.

What is your educational background?

I graduated from George Mason University with a degree in Mathematics. I only have a Bachelor’s degree and have no interest in attending graduate school or being part of academia.

Are you going to pursue traditional publishing?

Perhaps not with fiction, but definitely with poetry (currently putting together a manuscript for my next book).

What do you recommend when starting out in writing?

There are so many options for beginners. However, the easiest way to practice and build an audience is to start writing on Medium, which has a built-in audience.

Don’t always write about what is most popular or copy the same few people that everyone else is copying. You can, if that genuinely interests you, but as a reader, that is not going to impress me (sorry, not sorry).

You don’t need to publish every day, but be sure to show up on a weekly basis.

Any plans for a novel?

Yes! I’ve changed what I wanted the novel to be about for years, but I’m drafting a Celtic fantasy novel — with my signature poetic writing, symbolism, and allusions. Birds are part of the story. And music.
